An introduction to Italy through the most popular destinations in the country, with a general presentation of each of these cities and their history, and why they are so different from each other.
The series of seminars being with a general introduction of Italy and the immense variety of physical and human geography.
Far beyond what monuments to see or places to visit, this course provides valuable context behind each city that will add depth and greater meaning to your experience of these wonderful towns, revealing the historical, geographic, and cultural background that have shaped the identity of each place.

Who should attend?
Anyone who wishes to have a better understanding of the history and culture of Italy and the various art cities.
Lesson 1 – General introduction to the physical and human geography of Italy, how the location of the four cities determines the unique history and development of each of them.
Lesson 2 – Introduction to Naples, and how it’s history since its ancient Greek beginnings have made it into Italy’s most exuberant city.
Lesson 3 – Bologna and Turin, two northern cities of the Po Valley with very different identities.
Lesson 4 – Palermo and its multi-layered and multi-cultural history, followed by a comparison between the 4 cities discussed in this course and the main tourist centres of Rome, Florence Venice and Milan.

Eu Chai lived in Italy for nine years, having studied and obtained a post-graduate specialisation in town and regional planning for developing countries from the prestigious University Institute of Architecture of Venice (IUAV). After having worked 8 years for the Singapore Government specialising in physical planning of future railway lines, He decided to pursue his passion for travel, and launched a travel consultancy to showcase all that Italy has to offer.
